What do the monthly fees really get you?

Do they provide any other useful tools that speeds up your clinic flow, increases patient satisfaction, reduces your tasks and/or increases revenue?  It’s hard not to go with the cheapest bid that you receive but the old adage most often times stands true... ”You get what you pay for.”

Are they willing to work for you?

Taking the cream off the top is hard enough so the dollars you loose out on could be as high as 30% (based on a national average) of your billable dollars that don’t get followed up on because it is, “too hard.”  Some billing companies simply don’t have the staff or technology to keep up and collect on everything billable.  After all, what do they care? You’re the one that worked to gain the dollar, if it doesn’t get paid, oh well....

Do they provide reporting upon request?

Bad idea as now you are relying on someone else to retrieve a report for you.  This only slows your production down especially if it is something you’re just curious about that should take seconds to get.  Have you ever wondered what they’re hiding or if they’re manipulating the data before you get it?  Why shouldn’t you be able to run your own reports whenever you want?

Is your data really your data?

What happens if you want to terminate the relationship?  All your hard work in collecting patient demographics and building your A/R history.  Where does it go when you stop using their services?  Most companies will hold your data for ransom and expect you to pay thousands in order to take it with you.

There are many things to consider when choosing a billing and collection service and software, so here are a few we thought you may not know to question before its too late.

Are they still functioning on a paper system?

This should be red flag #1.  As technology advances so should the businesses around you.  Just because something has been done for 30 years doesn’t mean it’s still effective in today’s competitive market.
